Week 9 - Class 2.

In class we analyzed the following passage in our journals:

"And this woman was something like an assembly line for my soul." --> This line comes from "A Tree. A Rock. A Cloud." by Carson McCullers

We reviewed the Quest overview worksheet.

We also watched the short film version of the story and responded to:

Q?: Given our viewing and our reading, what can we now say about the quest archetype? What was the quest in "A Tree. A Rock. A Cloud."


HOMEWORK:  In your Annotation Packet --> read "The Poet" by Hermann Hesse (p. 23-26). Annotation Focus: Address the Unknown. --> Aim to focus on defining unfamiliar words.

Week 9 - Class 1

Class 1: Wrapping up understanding of the Hero in the Cyclops (archetypal character) and moving into new understanding of Quest stories (archetypal plotline) 

Objective: students demonstrate their understanding of the Cyclops as it relates to the monomyth through discussion and reviewing the worksheet.

AGENDA:

-Vocab and homework check

-Watch the rest of Cyclops – what can you gather about Odysseus’ behavior? How does he prove himself to be a hero?

-Re-cap – so what are the qualities of an archetypal hero?

HW: Read and annotate (addressing the unknown) “A Tree. A Rock. A Cloud.” By Carson Mc.Cullers.

Over the weekend - 10/22 & 10/23

Nice work on the vocabulary quiz today. 

Over the weekend - 
Finish the Odyssey reading in the archetype packet. Take notes in the packet as you go along to aid in your comprehension. 


Also - finish the worksheet with the Cyclops on it. We will review it in class on Monday.

Week 7

This week we are moving from our understanding of the MONOMYTHIC STRUCTURE to the lovely Archetype Packet! It's going to be an exciting introduction to the various archetypal plotlines and characters that are further developed in the packet!

Class 2 - Collect essays & begin understanding the monomyth with THE HERO'S JOURNEY packet.
